In support of this, TakaTaka Ni Mali Foundation in collaboration with the East African Business Council (EABC) and The GSMA is proud to host the East African Chapter’s Session at the ISWA 2024 Congress.

The East African Chapter will bring together key stakeholders, including GSMA and the East African Business Council (EABC), to chart the discourse on the role of technology and innovation in waste management. The chapter will converge a panel of key industry experts from both the public and private sectors to exegete the utilization of technology in value recovery from waste.
East-Africa will explore the role of technology and innovations in enhancing waste-management practices within the region. Research in East-Africa is focused on technologies and innovations enhancing sustainable processes such as waste segregation, recycling, and converting biodegradable waste into bio-based farming products. At the East African Plenary session, experts will discuss the application of these technologies, emphasizing their scalability, cost-effectiveness, and minimal labor requirements, tailored to the region’s needs.
The session speakers will highlight the East African context of waste management, showcasing the innovative solutions that are currently in play in the region. Technology & innovation has the potential to transform waste-management in East-Africa and beyond. Digital platforms like Ecoloop in Kenya and Zaidi App in Tanzania, connects stakeholders in the waste-management ecosystem, enhancing data collection and analytics. They also play a critical role in educating masses on sustainable waste-management. At the East-Africa panel, we delve into best practice technologies that have worked globally and can be localized to mitigate and manage illegal and irresponsible waste-management practices.
The ISWA 2024 Congress aims to stimulate foreign direct investment in Africa by promoting resource efficiency through sustainable production and consumption. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase the best available technologies and practices to Africa and support the growth of small, medium, and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs).
